Abant Lake is a landslide barrier lake located 35 kilometers southwest of Bolu, at an altitude of approximately 1350 meters, and with an area of 125 hectares. The deepest part of the lake, whose waters are sweet, is 18 meters.

Lake Abant (Abant Gölü) is a freshwater lake in Turkey’s Bolu Province in northwest Anatolia, formed as a result of a great landslide. The lake lies at an altitude of 1,328 m (4,357 ft) at a distance of 32 km (20 mi) from the provincial seat of Bolu city. It is a vacation and excursion spot for both Turkish and foreign travellers due to the natural environment, forests, and accessibility by car. (It is served by a 21 km (13 mi) road leaving from the İstanbul-Ankara motorway  O-4  E 80 or the highway  D.100 at the level of Mount Bolu, three hours’ drive from these two largest cities of Turkey). Lake Abant is a natural park.

Abant lake is used intensively because it is very close to the Istanbul-Ankara highway. There are hotels and restaurants around the lake. The area around the lake is suitable for entertainment, recreation, sports, hunting and picnics. Campgrounds are available. The asphalt road surrounding the lake is used for navigation. There are four day picnic areas. Near the Samat plateau, there is a camping area that can be used by 330 tents per day.

The surrounding plants such as hawthorn, blackberry, rosehip, strawberry, mushroom and mountain strawberries are used. There are trout and deer production stations around the lake. Trout fry are released into the lake. After deer are grown, they are released to nature.

Bolu entrance is controlled and a fee is charged. There is a parking lot in this area, a visitor promotion center is planned. A checkpoint is also planned at the Taşkesti and Mudurnu entrances.

How to go to Abant?
There is no direct transportation to Abant, which is approximately 40 km from Bolu city center. If you want to go to Abant without your own vehicle, which usually welcomes visitors with private vehicles, you can prefer Bolu buses first. Many bus companies have flights to Bolu from different cities. After reaching Bolu by bus, you can go to Abant by taxi or minibus.
