Our story begins with a madman Mazhar Murtezaoğlu. Today, the first thing that comes to mind when skiing tourism is mentioned is the story of Mazhar Murtezaoğlu, who made Kartalkaya Kartalkaya, and the story of Grand Kartal Hotel begins with the story of Grand Kartal Hotel… Mazhar Murtezaoğlu, originally from Rize, came to Bolu in 1960 when he was a forest engineer. He established the Bolu Mountain Canteen, as it was then known, in Bolu Mountain. It has brought a whole new dimension to its roadside facilities with its delicious food and immaculate service. The tomato soup, toast and wild strawberry jam of the restaurant, which later became known as Varan Facilities, has taken a place in the memory of everyone who visited there in those days. Later, Mazhar Murtezaoğlu built Koru Hotel on Bolu Mountain between Ankara and Istanbul. Mazhar Murtezaoğlu, who went to Switzerland in the following years, thought that winter tourism could be kept alive in the mountains in Turkey. When he returned to Bolu, he saw Kartalkaya in his sights.
Bolu Province, which is famous for its green nature, forests, natural beauties, lakes, mountains and plateaus throughout our country, has a very important place especially in winter tourism throughout the country. Kartalkaya Ski Center, which is the most important winter tourism center of our country, is located 38 km southeast of Bolu city center. Kartalkaya Ski Center is located in the Bolu – Köroğlu Mountain Tourism Area, which was announced on 6.9.1982, in the 1st Development Zone. 5 facilities in the region operate with a total of 1600 beds between December and April, which is the winter season. The hotels in Kartalkaya have 18 mechanical facilities in 2 main ski areas and a total of 25 tracks with various inclinations and difficulty levels. The total length of the runways reaches 40 km.
